So perhaps this isn't exactly the right list for this rant....but....I'm sittin here with the news on in the background and now I hear of some toys manufactured in China that have lead base paint and they are being recalled...after the pet food thing, etc etc etc....i can just see people blaming china for all this....so here is my take:
We should be looking at the U.S. involvement in these situations....U.S. regulations have forced U.S. companies to look for other markets for their now illegal products since they can't be sold here in the U.S. anymore....so whose fault is this exactly? The entire blame shouldn't be placed on China since it is some of OUR companies that are trying to make a buck on their toxic products....instead of disposing of them properly, they are selling their KNOWN TOXIC SHIT to anyone who will pay for it...be it China or South America or Africa...they have all become our wasteland for freon, inefficient appliances, agent orange, DDT, lead paint, asbestos....
Personally, I think this is a lesson in "you can't send it over the hill and not expect it to come back at you"....these companies seemed to think "oh fuck the chinese...let them suffer with lead paint"....now it's OUR children who are suffering with it....serves us right if you ask me....not that anyone did, but how small-minded, greedy, and fucked up are these U.S. companies????

Re: We create our own hell...
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:27 PMYeah, there was a big story here in Costa Rica recently about something that was used as a flavoring in toothpaste and something or other else that came from China and killed a bunch of people, mostly in Panama if I'm remembering it correctly, but the stuff was expired and not meant to be used in anything of that sort--it was meant for antifreeze and things of that nature, but since the manufacturers had purchased this particular ingredient from China...
Yeah, people are stupid and where else should one bitch if not *raging bitches*?

Re: We create our own hell...
Thu, January 3, 2008 - 10:32 PMIt's simple. You get what you pay for.
A well made product, manufactured in the USA, under US environmental, labor and product standards, with US quality control practices (and US liability for product defects) is not cheap.
And products from China are ridiculousy cheap.
Isn't that just wonderful?
No. It's not wonderful and people were fools to not know something was up.
You get what you pay for. You get what you are willing to pay for.
When consumers base their purchasing decisions almost exclusively on cheap price, they will go to Walmart and buy all that Chinese crap, everytime. And they will get what they pay for.
